How does Chinese Astrology work with the elements????

Okay in regular astrology I am a Capricorn and all other Capricorns like me are earth signs but in Chinese astrology my mom and my grandpa are both snakes but they have different elements! Why????

Because they were born a different year.
Each year the element changes even if it is the same sign as twelve years ago, it’s still a different element.
